The Buddy system is out. If you haven’t already chosen a Pokemon to walk with you, you may want to get on that. There’s no reason not to. After walking around with your new buddy, you get rewarded with some of its candy. Since candy is required for evolutions, most players are going to choose their buddies carefully. So which one is most popular?

Was there ever any doubt?

It’s probably Magikarp. Okay, it’s most likely Magikarp. It’s pretty much the perfect storm. It’s not rarely found, so players can typically get their hands on a powerful one. But they also need a staggering 400 candies to evolve into Gyarados. Even with catching all day every day, that’s a lot of fishing. The official numbers aren’t in about this yet. However, I’m willing to bet we’ll be seeing many more gyms being led by Gyarados soon enough.
