What is light, without a shadow? Team Rocket leader Giovanni has returned following the Festival of Lights event. And this time, he’s brought a powerful force with him: Shadow Lugia.

This is the next stage in the Season of Mischief storyline, an ongoing event based around the mythical Hoopa. By participating, you’ll gain access to a special event at the end of the season that might result in an encounter with the ring-based Legendary.

In this event, With Light Comes Shadow, Team GO Rocket has appeared to take over the ongoing Festival of Lights. Leading the mission is the big boss himself, Giovanni. The promotional article about the event on the Pokémon GO live blog plays coy with him having a secret legendary, but the promo art makes it fairly clear that it’s Lugia.

To find and encounter Giovanni, use a Super Rocket Radar. If you can defeat him and his shadow Pokémon, you’ll have a chance to rescue Shadow Lugia. You can also encounter Rocket Grunts, along with their leaders Cliff, Sierra, and Arlo, all who have a team of shadow Pokémon

This event begins today, and will presumably stick around until the Festival of Lights is over on November 14. Good luck, trainers, this won’t be an easy fight.
