Are you one of the rare individuals who plays Pokémon GO, while also knowing someone who hasn’t played but is interested? Niantic has implemented a new program for people like you. Introducing the Pokémon GO Referral Program.
The process is pretty straight forward. If you refer someone to the game, whether they’re new or haven’t played in a long time, then both you and them will receive various awards for when they hit certain milestones.
How to Refer a Friend to Pokémon GO
In the Friends screen of the app, there will be an option to invite someone. Select that and you will be given a referral code. Share that with the person you want to refer. If they are new, they will input the code in the sign-up process. If they are an existing player that hasn’t played in the last 90 days, they can input the code on the Friends screen. If an existing player has played more recently than that, the code won’t work.
This is an interesting decision from Niantic. Pokémon GO was the biggest mobile game of the decade. And with the second wave of interest, it’s hard to imagine that they’re exactly lacking for users. It’s a good thing that the referral program includes existing players, though. That at least gives the opportunity to pull old players back in.
Friends or not, be sure to play the game safely, following any local regulations in the process (you know, masks and such).
