The High Ranks
It’s been a while since Pokemon Go ranked top dog in the App Store, but the day has come! The last time it was this big, it was January 4, due to the New Year’s event. As of today, February 23, 3:30 P.M. EST it ranks 14 out of the top 50 free apps available through Google Play.
It’s currently ranked 34 out of 100 on the Apple Store, a little lower than the android counterpart.
Latest Update
But what’s with the higher ranking? Last week’s update added over 80 new Pokemon, and increased rewards when catching evolved Pokemon. It also added gender-specific variations of certain Pokemon, and a night mode map which features new music.
Evolution & Berries
As if that wasn’t enough, there’s two new berries and Evolution items. According to Nintendo Life, the items are available at PokeStops. There are five available stone types to choose from:
- King’s Rock: Evolves Poliwhirl into Politoed / Slowpoke into Slowking
- Metal Coat: Onix into Steelix / Scyther into Scizor
- Upgrade: Porygon into Porygon2
- Dragon Scale: Evolves Seadra into Kingdra
- Sun Stone: Gloom into Bellossom / Sunkern into Sunflora
Use these to evolve Gen 1 Pokemon into Gen 2. Just don’t expect the drop rate to be consistent. There’s plenty of people going to several PokeStops and finding zero Evolution items. On the other hand, there are also reports saying the contrary.
And let’s not forget the berries: Nanab, which slows Pokemon down, making them easier to catch, and Pinap, which doubles the candy handed over upon being caught.
All we can say is best of luck to you! Patience is key. Keep an eye out for PokeStops and stay safe out there.
