Ditto, everyone’s favorite pink blob Pokémon, is seeing newfound fame as the recently released Pokémon GO series of trading cards introduce a fun new gimmick. We hope you have a keen eye, because Ditto might be disguised as someone else.
Here’s how it works. When you get a pack of the Pokémon GO themed trading cards, there’s a chance to find a card with a small Ditto icon in the bottom-left corner. If so, then you can actually peel the entire card’s surface away to reveal that it was actually a Ditto card all along. There are plenty of videos of this online by now, but here’s a Reddit post showing it off.
The new trading card expansion, which draws its theming from the hit mobile AR game, releases to the general public on July 1. But this hasn’t stopped details to become available as special promo packs are distributed.
This is such a fun and creative way to represent Ditto’s unique ability. And while peeling it away must be super satisfying, we can’t help but wonder where exactly this would sit for collectors. In theory, an unpeeled card would be of tremendous value one day. Others, however, express a concern that the adhesive used in the over layer might cause issues for preservation. It’s the kind of thing that time will only reveal. As for us, we’d probably just save it for a time where we can show it off to a friend or something.
