It’s been an Extraordinary Raid Week so far! And to see it all off, developer Niantic has announced three Legendary to appear in five star Raid Battles next week: Groudon, Kyogre, and Cresselia!
Each Legendary Pokémon will have their own span of time as a premier five star Raid Battle, with Cresselia having the most. During these times, they will appear at various Gyms around the world. Each one will have a chance of being a shiny variation as well.
Cresselia
- Begins: Monday, May 27, 2019, at 1 PM PDT
- Ends: Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at 1 PM PDT
Cresselia is the light side of the “Lunar Duo” from generation 4, acting as the incandescent opposition to Darkrai. On nights around the quarter moon, the aurora from this Psychic-Type’s tail extends in a radiant manner.
When fighting it in a Raid Battle, we recommend Bug-, Dark-, or Ghost-Type Pokémon.
Kyogre
- Begins: Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at 1 PM PDT
- Ends: Thursday, June 27, 2019, at 1 PM PDT
Kyogre is the giant water guardian from generation 3. It once fought in a great battle against its counterpart Groudon over dominance of the planet, where it laid in rest at the bottom of the sea afterward. Kyogre has appeared in mythology as the creator of the sea.
When fighting in Raid Battles, we recommend a Grass- or Electric-Type Pokémon.
Groudon
- Begins: Thursday, June 27, 2019, at 1 PM PDT
- Ends: Wednesday, July 10, 2019, at 1 PM PDT
Another weather beast from generation 3, Groudon holds dominance over the landmasses of the planet. Groudon is known in mythology as the Pokémon that raised lands and expanded continents. Like with their opponent, Groudon went into a deep slumber in underground magma after a powerful battle with Kyogre.
Groudon is Ground-Type and not fire. So Grass-, Water-, and Ice-Type Pokémon are your best choice when battling it in a five star Raid Battle.
