Could Team Rocket Find a Place in Pokemon GO?

I wanted to take a break from all of...

I wanted to take a break from all of this “Generation 2” talk to bring up another subject. I understand that we’re still looking forward to trading, battling, and such from Pokemon GO. However, what about something to really shake the whole game  up? We could really use something to turn the whole thing on its head. And the answer comes all the way from the very beginning.

That’s right. It’s Team Rocket. What better way to introduce an urgent feel to Pokemon GO? If implemented into the game, Team Rocket could be a real reason players could band together regardless of team. But how could it work?

The most obvious idea honestly seems to be the most fun. Within a given area, Team Rocket could start taking gyms over at an alarming rate. Each one would turn black instead of the usual red, blue, or yellow. At that point, the game isn’t about who can hold a gym the longest. Instead, it’s about everyone banding together to kick Team Rocket out of the city.

“We’re here to fight tyranny and catch Pokemon!”

I can hear your concerns already. “What’s to stop players from just taking back their own gyms and leaving the others to Team Rocket?” Well, the entire point is that Team Rocket is there to take over all the gyms they can. As long as they have any foothold in the area, they are going to keep spreading like wildfire. And the longer they hold a gym, the stronger they become.

Of course, I’m just spit-balling ideas here. As far as I know, there are no real plans to actually implement any kind of antagonists into Pokemon GO. However, I do feel that’s a missed opportunity. And based on this recent article from Forbes, I’m not alone in that thinking.
