With every new Pokémon game, we prepare ourselves for people online to complain about it. And with something as unorthodox as Pokémon Legends: Arceus, there were a lot of folks shouting discontent. Normally, we would take their words with a grain of pessimistic salt. But this time, they have a pretty good reason: Cherrim.
Cherrim is a cute little blossom Pokémon. Its small, pink, floral, and friendly. And apparently in Legends, its an absolute nightmare to try and catch.
Legends has plenty of challenging encounters, sure. Alpha Pokémon are tough as nails and Noble Pokémon take multiple stages of effort to capture. But none of them compare to the frustration of capturing a Cherrim, apparently.
But Why?
Well, there are a few reasons. The first one is fairly standard: it’s not commonly found. Cherrim can only be found in specific areas and by shaking trees. So if you want to find one, you have to make an active effort to look for one. But that’s not enough to anger the masses. It’s the catch rate.
Assuming you find one, odds are you won’t catch it. People online are claiming to have spent hours trying to catch one of them, to no avail. Even when reduced to a single hit point, players were struggling to get the fruity little bugger to stay in the Pokéball.
There’s a reason for this, as it turns out. According to the Japanese support page, updated last Wednesday, there is a bug that can make Cherrim uncatchable.
“If Cherrim changes its form even once, it cannot be captured.”
Cherrim can change forms based on the weather. Sunny skies will cause it to “bloom” into the form most folks are familiar with. The support page states that it may be possible to catch the Pokémon at night or in non-sunny weather. Even so, they state that the bug is recognized and that it is scheduled to be fixed in the next update.
Filling out the PokéDex aside, catching a Cherrim is part of a quest called “To Bloom or Not to Bloom.” This has led to more and more folks trying to catch the Pokémon, only to waste Pokéballs, time, and patience in the process.
But don’t worry, everyone. It’s still possible, just in an unorthodox way. But if you don’t trust that, you’ll just have to wait until the update releases and fixes the issue.
