A tremendously heart-warming thing has happened in the world of Pokémon GO. A mural dedicated to the late video game personality Etika has been recognized by Niantic and turned into an official PokéStop.
Back in November 2019, a mural appeared in Brooklyn, New York, dedicated to Desmond Amofah, a popular video game YouTuber and streamer known as Etika. He was known for his high levels of enthusiasm in games, particularly in regards to Nintendo and Pokémon products, including Pokémon GO. In June 2019, Etika took his own life after struggling with mental health issues. The mural was in commemoration of his life.
Not long after the mural’s creation, Twitter user REVERSAL pushed to have the spot commemorated in the form of a PokéStop in Pokémon GO. After several months of community rallying, researching, and various other active efforts, REVERSAL’s goal reached fruition.
The stop is called “Etika Mural”, with the subtext of “Remembering the passing of Etika, Joyconboyz forever.”
To some folks, this is just another PokéStop. But to those who remember and miss Etika, this is a wonderful gift. Have yourself a damn good one, everyone.
